"Great accommodation in convenient location"
We stayed a week in this delightful machiya in Kyoto. Our booking and arrangements by email were handled very promptly and the reception at the rental office when we arrived was warm and efficient.
The house is well located, a short taxi ride from Kyoto station, within 10 minutes walk to the subway and with a City Bus stop close by. There is a good local supermarket and a post office (with ATM) within five minutes walk. Bikes are also provided.
Maeniiya is in a very typical, narrow and traditional Kyoto street and very quiet and private despite the proximity of neighbours. The house provides an authentic Japanese domestic experience but with all necessary modern facilities. It is in excellent condition with plenty of space for up to four people, very tastefully furnished and well appointed, with many homely and personal touches. The rooms are generous in size and very comfortable and there is a delightful small garden adjoining the living room. The kitchen is well equipped and everything necessary for cooking is provided, with a good sized refrigerator plus 3 hotplates and a microwave/convection oven come toaster/grill. The bathroom, although small, is very adequate and the washing/drying machine a real bonus and very easy to use.
This is an ideal base for a stay in Kyoto and beats a hotel hands down - at the end of a hard day’s touring, it is so nice to come back to such a comfortable home away from home.
