We enjoyed our stay at the Maeniiya Machiya. My wife and I have paid 9 visits to Japan over the last 35 years and 5 to Kyoto. On this occasion we were introducing a friend from California to the many interesting sights and available activities the city has to offer. We were looking for somewhere a little more traditionally Japanese than the usual hotel and the Maeniiya Machiya certainly provided that experience. It's so conveniently located in the centre of the city yet in a quiet alley offering an authentic flavour of Kyoto's past. Traditional it may be but also well appointed with all the conveniences necessary for a comfortable stay. Along with all the temples, shrines and other cultural offering, staying at the Maeniiya Machiya will stand out in our memories for a long time to come. We will certainly recommend it to any of our family and friends who may be visiting Japan in the future.
